Why Google is No 1
Google’s Adsense program is the best affiliate program available, no other program comes close. If you are not using Google’s Adsense, you’re missing a great opportunity to earn from your website. I’ve tried several other affiliate programs, and none makes as much as Google. Amazon's affiliate program pays 5% commission for shipped products. It’s not clear how Google calculates what it will pay you, but it works out at quite a reasonable sum, as long as you have the traffic, and some of it clicks on your ads. Some points to note: If you search multiple websites in different categories you’ll find one thing in common, Google ads predominate. This is because the website owners have discovered that most other programs are a waste of time. Try others by all means, but don’t miss out on Google’s Adsense. Google’s search spiders are observent, the ads that appear on each page correspond to words on that page. You can place Google text ads, images, banner ads and even a Google search box on your pages and all can earn you income. I sometimes muck about with the spiders and write something, say, about the Catholic Church, low and behold, ads appear for Catholic institutions and flesh coloured Christs that glow in the dark [thanks to Bob Dylan:-)]. You can open a Google account really easily. All it takes is filling in your personal details, choosing a user name and password, and confirming your account from the link in the email they send. Then you go to the affilate's pages and choose the ads you want to use. You can customise the colours of any ads, choose between vertical skyscrapers - those thin ones which run down the pages on the right or left - horizontal banners of various sizes, square blocks of four ads and others, and all can be set in the colours you choose for your site. Try to blend the ads in with the rest of the page as people click more on ads which don't stand out as different. Sizes are, of course, chosen to fit with the other elements on your pages, so experiment, move them around, try them in unusual places, be inventive! But always remember that the top half of the page, what's known as 'above the fold' [from newspaper printing where they were folded], is the best place for ads, people see them as the page loads, rather than when they scroll down, which they may not. Top left or top right are the very best places and will bring the best results. Once you have chosen your ad's style, layout and colour, you click ok and Google immediately displays the code to copy and paste into your page [it goes within the body tags]. Once pasted and uploaded, your ads will start to work, displaying every time the page is loaded, and always relevent to the content. If they display ads from competitors which you feel is lessening your chance of selling your products [if that's what your website is about] then you can select ones to not display. There are lots of ways of making money from a website, but Google ads are a dependable system which always works, and which pays out automatically once your total earnings reach $100. This can be sent by cheque [US check] or if you give your bank account details, by direct transfer. |
