Who would vote republican?
There are so many reasons not to vote for McCain, even if you're a traditional republican voter. Of course his age is one, doesn't do to have a president napping when he ought to be concentrating, but the biggest to my mind is is avowed intention to stay in Iraq for a hundred years. Of course this is a grandiose statement seeing that presidents are elected for four years, but it emphasises that there's no way he would be looking to remove America's accupation of Iraq, ever the warrior, he sees no other resolution but yet more force. Another reason is the danger that he could have a flashback to Vietnam and nuke everyone in panic. If someone has been tortured, as we are asked to believe McCain was, there's never any certainty over their mental state, these things can take decades before they work their way out. Dangerous when you're the most powerful man in the world in terms of nuclear firepower, even if you can't subdue a shattered nation like Iraq. The most cogent reason, though, for McCain not having a hope is the other two candidates, either of whom could wipe the floor with him. Clinton is the least sure as there are plenty of people who just can't stand her, and some of them are democrats, whereas Obama has republicans planning on voting for him, and he would get the votes of all those who supported Clinton. And with Obama still well ahead despite the three latest defeats, and it looking like Clinton can't catch him up, my money's on Obama. So a slim, lithe, healthy, coherent man with a good attitude towards the rest of the world even the traditional American enemies - the little guys who told Amerika where to go - and the intention of withdrawing US troops from Iraq in as quick a time as it's possible to do such a highly complex move, he is likely to look good to a vast majority of Americans who deep down believe in fair play and being decent to people, who have been badly let down by the government in recent years, and who are probably, some of them at least, feeling guilty for ever voting for Bush, and so they should be. They all owe the world an apology.
