Printing CDs
If planning on buying a colour printer, be sure to choose one which prints on CDs. Many don't, but a substantial number do, and the price isn't any more. My Cannon Pixma prints beautifully on CDs; the software can take a rectangular photograph and make a circular label from it, then print it to within half a millimetre of the edge in perfect allignment. You have to buy CDs which are coated on the top with a white base on which the printer prints. These are usually labeled CDR Printable and cost no more than non printable, standard CDs. Best if you buy a 50 pack, they are a lot cheaper. Then, when you have printed the CD, you can print a matching paper sleeve for the jewel case, complete with title and extra text if needed. The software that comes with the printer usually does this in a simple click process. Contents for the CDs can range from a photographic collection, a family album, a music collection, your own recorded music, a presentation to show a client what you offer, whatever needs putting on CD. If running your own company, you could print CDs with your company logo, photograph of yourself, your office, staff or product and then use them whenever a CD was needed for transfer of data. You could design the label with a white space for hand filling in details, an essential if you are using them to archive on. With today's prices for amazing quality in colour inkjets, everyone can have a professional image without the upfront costs of a commercial CD print run. |
