Making money from other's advice
I'm always struck by these sites you find if you click on anything remotely promising answers to making money online. Apart from the fact that they all look alike with large type usually all in Courier, the least attractive font ever invented, with lots of colour changes and a proliferation of exclamation marks. They scroll and scroll down and down until you begin to wonder if they will ever get to the point. Stories about how the author had struggled on the net trying to make money with marketing, and usually come to a point where the author 'discovered' the secets he now wishes to share with you. Amounts can vary, but there's always a 'I made X thousand dollars in just one week/month and how he has never looked back. Then comes more encouragement to the reader in the form of questions like 'Haven't you always wished you could give up the nine-to-five and live a life of luxury?' or words to that effect with variations, and there are often pictures of someone on a lounger by a pool where the sun is always shining, or someone, usually a man, in swimming shorts with a laptop on his lap; the implication being that little effort is needed, just tap a few keys while you sunbather. There then follows some questions such as 'Wouldn't you like to earn X thousand dollars while you sleep?' and some badly scanned bank statements with key things markered out, and showing sums of money usually in the tens or hundreds of thousands. Pretty impressive huh? Who wouldn't want to get on the bandwagon and start earning that sort of money? To get the key to this cornucopia all you have to do is buy the secrets, usually in the form of an e-book or e-course which typically costs $29.95 or something similar; not too high to scare people away, not to low that little will be made without tens of thousands of sales. And I always ask 'If you're so rich after finding this fabulous secret wealth creation deal, why are you bothering to sell anything, why not just relax and enjoy your 'millionaire's lifestyle'? Do millionaires habitually hang about on the net trying to sell dubious ebooks with frankly over the top claims? Or is this ebook how you are making your money, and the big secret is to get enough suckers to shell out for it, when all it contains are instructions to repackage the ebook, set yourself up with a website - for which a handy template is provided - and set off trying to get enough traffic so that a percentage will fall for it and give you money too? |
